Eligibility for Agoura Youth Lacrosse
Agoura Lacrosse is the youth program for those families who live in the area zoned for Agoura High School, Calabasas High School or Malibu. For the 2024 season, Oak Park kids are also eligible to play for the Agoura program.
If you live in a town that does not have its own Youth lacrosse league or if that town cannot field a team at your age group, you are also eligible to play for the Agoura Youth Lacrosse, pending SCLA approval.

What are the age groups for the 2024 season?
Boys:
· 14U: Born after 9/1/2011
· 12U: Born between 9/1/2011 and 8/31/2013
· 10U: Born between 9/1/2013 and 8/31/2015
· 8U: Born on or after 9/1/2015
Girls:

How many teams in each age group?
Ideally Agoura will have two teams for each age group: 1) A Stars team comprised of more experienced players and 2) A Stripes team comprised of younger and/or less experienced players. However, the number of teams depends on the number of players registered for each age group. The team size typically varies between 17 and 20 players for 14U, 12U and Girls Middle School; 8-12 players for 10U, 8U and Girls Elementary.
What if my child has never played lacrosse before?
Beginner players are strongly encouraged to play, regardless of skill level. Basic lacrosse skills (catching, throwing, cradling, shooting, ground balls) are taught and practiced at every practice.
An “equitable” playing time approach guarantees that all kids will see playing time, regardless of skill level.
If your child is interested in lacrosse, please buy them a lacrosse stick and ball ASAP and start practicing. YouTube has numerous helpful videos demonstrating basic lacrosse skills and techniques.
Fall clinics are offered by LA Mavericks: Visit their website for more information http://www.lamavericks.com/
What are the rules?
See the following links:
Rules: SCLA & US LAX : SCLA - Southern California Lacrosse Association (socallaxassoc.com)
Referee Signals: Officials Signals : SCLA - Southern California Lacrosse Association (socallaxassoc.com)
How physical is lacrosse?
Boy’s lacrosse is a contact sport. However, 8U has a no checking rule (no body-checking and no stick-checking) and 10U has a no body-checking rule. Player safety is a primary concern and focus of our league.
Girl’s lacrosse is a limited-contact sport.
How is the league run?
The Southern California Lacrosse Association (SCLA) is the governing body for Youth Lacrosse in our area. The SCLA coordinates administrative logistics (rules, game schedules, game dates, game locations, referees, rankings, playoffs, etc.). See the attached SCLA website for additional information: Home : SCLA - Southern California Lacrosse Association (socallaxassoc.com)
The following towns have their own Youth Lacrosse programs that participate in the SCLA: Agoura, Newbury Park (includes parts of Thousand Oaks), United (Westlake Village and parts of Thousand Oaks), Simi Valley, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita, Ventura, Pasadena, Santa Barbara.
Each town is responsible for registering eligible players, establishing teams, securing coaches, buying uniforms and coordinating the Youth program in their respective town. The Agoura Youth Lacrosse Association is responsible for this activity for kids eligible to play for Agoura.
If you live in a town that does not have its own Youth Lacrosse league or if that town cannot field a team at your age group, you are also eligible to play for Agoura Youth Lacrosse, pending SCLA approval.

The closing of registration varies based on team and number of players registered. Roster spots are on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is strongly encouraged. Registration for all teams will officially close before or on December 31, 2023.

Why does it cost so much?
Agoura Lacrosse Association is a not-for-profit entity and has a 100% volunteer board of directors. Agoura Lacrosse and the SCLA have many significant expenditures including: coaching fees, uniforms, field rental, referee fees, insurance, and equipment.
What is the refund policy?
75% refund if requested before the first practice. 50% refund if requested before the first game. No refunds after the first game.
Where are practices? How many?
Actual fields and dates will be determined after registration is complete. Historically, practices have been at Chumash Park or Willow Elementary. Practices are typically 1 day per week for the boys 8U team and 2 days per week for the boys 10U, 12U, 14U and Girls MS teams and Girls ES teams.
Where are games? How many?
Actual game fields, dates and times will not be available until early/mid February. Games last approximately 1 hour. Historically, there has been a “Jamboree” at the beginning of the season where each team gets 2-3 pre-season games, followed by 8 regular season games and a one weekend playoff. Many of the games will be played at Arroyo Vista in Moorpark; however, due to the SCLA's town-based structure, you may have to travel to Simi Valley, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita and/or Pasadena. Please note that game times and locations change regularly during the season. Flexibility and patience are required.
